White Shell Mountain Tee Pattern by Tressa Weidenaar / Tsin Bikee’ Knits

CA$10.75

From the designer: White Shell Mountain, known as Sisnaajiní to the Navajo people, is located near Alamosa, Colorado. This past summer, I was able to see this beautiful mountain with my family and was amazed at the beauty of it. I also read a young adult book called “Race to the Sun,” by Rebecca Roanhorse in which a young Navajo girl embarks on a journey to save her loved ones from monsters. She is required to visit each of the four sacred mountains where she needs to obtain a gift to bring to Spider Woman who will help her get weapons to fight off the monsters. When she gets to Sisnaajiní, she finds White Shell Boy who shows her where to get a perfect white shell for the gift from this mountain.

The simple colorwork motifs in this sweater are white like the shells from “Race to the Sun.” Mountain peaks can be seen in the lower band of this design which is also part of my inspiration. I love to draw inspiration from my Navajo homeland and enjoyed seeing this design come together from my summer adventures.*Note: White Shell Mountain is also known as Mount Blanca.
